PRONOUN

 

Pronoun adalah kata yang menggantikan kata benda di dalam kalimat. Pronoun digunakan untuk menghindari pengulangan kata benda yang sama dalam percakapan atau penulisan yang membuat sebuah kalimat tidak efektif.

Ada beberapa jenis pronoun dalam Bahasa Inggris. Perhatikan tabel di bawah ini!

A.      A. Subject Pronoun

Subject pronoun adalah kata ganti yang berfungsi sebagai subject di dalam kalimat. Macam-macam subject pronoun yaitu: I, you, we, they, she, he, dan it.

Contoh penggunaannya di dalam kalimat:

1.       I am Stephanie Del.

2.       You are beautiful.

3.       We can see a great view from here.

4.       They have ever been to Tokyo.

5.       He is a diligent student.

6.       She is a celebrity chef.

7.       It is very delicious.

B.      B. Object Pronoun

Object pronoun adalah kata ganti yang berfungsi sebagai object di dalam kalimat. Macam-macam object pronoun yaitu: me, you, us, them, him, her dan it.

Contoh penggunaannya di dalam kalimat:

1.       He looked at me cynically.

2.       I love you.

3.       Please tell us about what happened to you.

4.       He gave them some food.

5.       Ratna left him alone in the subway.

6.       Dave taught him to drive safely.

7.       We put it back to the right place.

C.       C. Possessive Adjective

Possessive Adjective adalah kata adjective (kata sifat) yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan kepemilikan kata benda (noun) yang dimodifikasinya/diterangkannya. Macam-macam possessive adjective yaitu: my, your, our, their, his, her dan its.

Contoh penggunaannya di dalam kalimat:

1.       My friend is very smart.

2.       We like your voice a lot.

3.       He is our younger brother.

4.       I like to watch their videos.

5.       His teeth look white and neat when he smiles.

6.       Her sister is as beautiful as mine.

7.       My cat always wags its tail.

Jadi penggunaan possessive adjective di dalam kalimat selalu diikuti kata benda.

D   D. Possessive Pronoun

P   Possessive Pronoun adalah kata ganti kepemilikan; digunakan untuk menunjukkan adanya suatu kepemilikan/ownership atas sesuatu. Macam-macam possessive pronoun adalah: mine, yours, ours, theirs, his, hers dan its.

Contoh penggunaannya di dalam kalimat:

1.       This jacket is mine (my jacket)

2.       Finally you bought the car. It is yours (your car) now.

3.       He bought ours (our merchandise).

4.       Theirs (their products) are still the best in the market.

5.       It is his (his cat). Please don’t disturb it.

6.       We like hers (her cake) most.

7.       This milk is its (the cat’s milk).

Jadi possessive pronoun digunakan untuk menggantikan kata benda/noun yang dihilangkan. My jacketèmine, your carèyours, our merchandise èours, their productsètheirs, his catèhis, dan her cakeèhers.

Perhatikan lagi contoh-contoh kalimat di atas bahwa possessive pronoun bisa berfungsi sebagai subject maupun object di dalam kalimat.

Sebagai kesimpulan, possessive pronoun menggantikan noun dan possessive adjective menerangkan noun.

 Read the following text carefully!

 My name is Vanessha Del. I am a student of Islamic Senior High School 1 Bandar Lampung, aka MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. It is situated in Sukarame sub-district, Bandar Lampung. I live in Sukarame as well, not far from the school. It only takes me about 5 minutes to go on foot to get the school. I study from Monday till Saturday.

I live with my family. They are all five: my father, mother, and two beautiful sisters, Stephanie and Regia Del. We are happy family. We always try to make quality time by spending the time together no matter busy we are.

My father is an entrepreneur. He is a very kind-hearted and diligent man. I see him work hard everyday to support our family. He likes to read some business books in his spare time. Dad is a family man. For me, he is the best dad in the world.

My mother is a beautiful woman. Her hobby is cooking. She especially likes to cook chicken soup. It is very delicious. The most delicious ever on the earth. Mom is a school teacher. She teaches English and Mandarin Chinese at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. Mom is also a diligent woman. She usually wakes up very early in the morning to prepare our breakfast then goes to work at 6.45 a.m and returns home at about 4 p.m. She looks very busy everyday.

My elder sister, Stephanie Del is also a student. She studies at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung as well. She is the 12th grader. Stephanie is very intelligent. I guess her hobby is studying because she is always accompanied by her books everyday. Stevy always gets the first rank every semester. She is an awesome girl.

The last but not least is my youngest sister, Regia Del. She is the most spoiled in our family. I guess it is because she is the youngest among us. However she is very diligent, cute and cheerful. Her hobby is cleaning the house. It makes our house always clean and comfort to live. She is now the 9th grader of Islamic Junior High School 2 Bandar Lampung.

No matter what, I love mom, dad and my sisters very much, and will always do. They are all my happiness ever after.
